Fragment Shader Interlock Performance on an AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT
This is another update of the articles "Fragment Shader Interlock Performance (α Compositing)" and "Fragment Shader Interlock Performance on the Steam Deck", where I previously had a look at the performance of a GPU feature called fragment shader interlock for alpha composition. In the first article, I was not able to test the performance on AMD GPUs, as the fragment shader interlock extension was not supported on OpenGL and Vulkan. In the second article, I had tested the extension on the Steam Deck, as the Mesa RADV Vulkan driver had gained support for this extension at the time.
As of Adrenalin 24.12.1, AMD now finally also supports the extension on Windows. Below, the results for an AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT GPU can be seen for the same tests as performed in the previous article on an NVIDIA RTX 2070 SUPER.
